Avid runners can compete locally soon and also help a local program. The first Warren County Chase 5K and Half Marathon will be held Saturday, Aug. 5 at WCHS.
Monica Moore has been instrumental in organizing the new race that will be raising money for the WCMS cross country program. She's hopeful to outfit her growing team with new jerseys this fall.
"I have about 16 members on the team right now and I will pick up a few more at the start of school," said Moore, an avid runner and operator of Mad Cow Running Company. "The money from the race will go to the purchasing of uniforms.
"I have a great group of student-athletes who have a passion for running. They are out running on their own to become stronger runners."
Moore has emerged as one of the premier runners in town, having recently crossing first among all the females in the Stars and Stripes 5K. She relishes the opportunity to have people join her in the activity she loves, including with the running and walking groups organized by Mad Cow.
"I am passionate about running and seeing people reach goals they didn't think they could, so I just started a run group and walk group to reach people of different paces and goals. This community has embraced those groups and every week we have new members join the herd. I love the fact that people are getting out and getting active," said Moore.
Registration is $60 for the half marathon and $35 for the 5K. Runners need to register Thursday to guarantee they receive the correct size shirt for the event. To register, search Warren County Chase on www.runsignup.com.
