Irving College girls bounce back against Boyd
In an attempt to get past the defense, Kenley Cathcart gets the contact from Lady Bronco defender Dana Jones on her way to the rim versus Boyd Christian on Thursday night.

The Irving College Lady Tigers responded with a 51-39 win over the Boyd Christian Lady Broncos after Irving College suffered a one-point loss earlier in the week.
The Lady Broncos led the game early with an aggressive offense. Mistakes by the Lady Tigers allowed Boyd to score before the defense had time to get back down the floor.
By the second quarter Irving College settled down and the Lady Broncos could not find an answer for Emily Fults inside. Fults led all scorers with a game-high 19 points after a low-scoring, two-point first quarter.
Boyd came out and took the ball right at the Lady Tiger defense. Four of the five starters for the Lady Broncos got to the rim in the first. Erica Cantrell got contact on the way to the basket and her shot fell through as the whistle sounded. She added a free throw and completed the and-1.
Alaina Stiles for Boyd got inside the defense for her first two points and then moments later she stepped back and fired a deep 3-pointer over the Lady Tigers and hit from deep. Ashley Vandagriff and Breanna Jones helped Boyd extend the lead in the first.
The Lady Tigers were caught by surprise when Boyd showed full-court pressure on the ball. Hannah Lee got an open look in the first and knocked down her first two points. Fults got inside the Boyd defense and was fouled. She connected on two free throws.
Kenley Cathcart picked off a pair of passes on defense and quickly raced back down the court for transition baskets and after one Irving College led 12-8.
In the second quarter, Irving College settled in and the Lady Tigers were much more selective with their shots. Ella Bond picked up a pair of baskets in the second, but the Lady Tiger offense was highlighted by Fults.
Fults went to work in the low post and appeared to look unstoppable. She dropped in 10 of her 19 just before the half. Jillian Frankman and Lee helped claim the lead going into the half.
Even though Boyd improved on offense, the Lady Broncos spent most of their time on defense. Stiles and Cantrell continued their assault on the basket in the second and Anna Jones picked up her only two points of the game in the second. At the half, Boyd trailed 28-25.
In the second half, Fults continued with her dominance in the paint. DaRae Knight got past the Boyd defense for her only two points.
For Boyd, the struggle was real. It was the Lady Broncos worst offensive quarter of the game. Cantrell found points outside the paint and Stiles connected on a pair of free throws. By the end of the third, Irving College extended its lead, 40-29.
The Lady Tigers cruised through the fourth quarter. Boyd attempted to make runs at the lead and the Lady Tigers sustained those runs till the final buzzer. Kenley Cathcart led the Lady Tigers in the final quarter with four.
Stiles led Boyd down the stretch with six points and Abby Blanton finished up the scoring with her final two points.
