Friday night was Kason Holder’s time to shine.

Holder caught two touchdown passes, including the game-winner with :54 left, as Warren County High School stayed undefeated with an 18-13 win at Rockvale High School.

Holder finished with two catches, both for TDs, and 62 yards receiving.

Pioneer quarterback C.J. Taylor piled up 108 yards rushing and was 9-for-15 passing for 163 yards and 2 TDs.

Kason’s winning catch came on a 38-yard strike. He managed to squeeze past his defender and C.J. hit him in full stride.

“We spread it out and went four verts,” said Holder of the route which sent four receivers deep. “I had one man to beat. He got his hands on me but I was able to slip inside. By the time I turned, the ball was there. C.J. put it in the right spot.”

It was the second huge catch for Kason in the game. His first catch came in the second quarter with the Pioneers down, 7-6.

Lined up on the right side of the formation, Kason ran down the seam and caught the ball as soft as a pillow over his shoulder. He cruised into the endzone to give the Pioneers a 12-7 lead with 1:44 to go in the half.

Kason’s brother, Ryland, sealed the victory with a last-minute interception, the only turnover by either team. It came after Rockvale picked up two first downs and had crossed midfield with :21 left.

“I had the flat,” said Ryland of his interception. “I was watching the quarterback and as soon as his arm went back to throw it, I started running full speed. He never saw me.”
