The 1973 Pioneer football team played Baylor High School, a private boarding school located in Chattanooga, in the first round of the TSSAA playoffs in 1973. There were only three football classifications in 1973, and only eight teams from AAA made the playoffs. There were four regions and only the top two teams from each region went to the playoffs.
