Gillespie delivers for Standard

William Gillespie delivered one of his biggest hits of the season for Southern Standard on Friday night.Gillespie’s base hit to right field drove in Peyton Adams from third base and sent the Standard to a 6-5 victory over Platinum Roofing in boys 9-11 baseball action at the Civic Center.Gillespie and Owen Clark finished with two hits each to lead the Standard. Brax Hopkins, Matthew Colangione, Adams, Alec Johnson, Dawson Sullivan and Lukas Bernhardt had one hit each.Talan Mullican and Camron Perry each had hits for Platinum Roofing, with Perry’s being a blast to the fence that earned him a triple.Despite being outhit, Platinum Roofing stayed in the game thanks to seven walks.Platinum Roofing faced a 5-3 deficit entering the top of the fifth and managed to tie the game when Perry and John Young each walked. After two steals, Perry scored from third base on a balk.
