Kyra Perkins continued her strong senior campaign with 12 points, three rebounds two steals and an assist in Monday's win at Tullahoma.

The momentum is starting to build for the Lady Pioneers. Warren County now has won six of its last seven games after beating Tullahoma 47-38 Monday.

It was a super six doing the heavy lifting for the Lady Pioneers on the road as coach Anthony Lippe shortened his bench to take care of the Lady Wildcats. Shelby Smartt led the way with 14 points, followed by Kyra Perkins with 12, Sable Winfree with 11 and Mia Hobbs with 10. Savannah Winfree added three boards and two assists, while Brienne Kelsey was the only other Lady Pioneer to get into the action for Warren County.

Warren County (7-3) didn’t want to duplicate the letdown in Tullahoma from last year, when the team had one of its worst shooting nights of the season on the way to a 38-32 loss. This season, the Lady Pioneers operated with ruthless efficiency for three quarters, building a huge lead before withstanding a late rally.

Smartt’s step-back triple before the third quarter buzzer put the Lady Pioneers up 38-22 going into the fourth. By the time Perkins sliced through Tullahoma in transition for an easy layup to start the fourth, Warren County had its largest lead at 18 points.

The Lady Wildcats wouldn’t quit though. Tullahoma went on a 9-2 run to close the gap, but Hobbs drilled a straightaway 3-pointer with 3:05 left that kept Warren County up 14, 45-31.

A steal and score by Perkins with a minute left iced the game for the Lady Pioneers, who completed the sweep of Tullahoma with the strong showing on the road. Warren County started its impressive stretch of play against the Lady Wildcats back on Nov. 22, winning 56-27 at Charlie Dalton Gym.

In the middle of sweeping Tullahoma, the Lady Pioneers have lost just one game at Sparta while taking down Stewarts Creek, DeKalb County, Cannon County and Ooltewah. Warren County beat the Lady Owls Saturday 66-23.

Warren County try to get its fifth straight win Friday when it meets one of the state’s best teams in 4A. The Cookeville Lady Cavaliers, winners of six straight, will come to town for a clash of preseason top 10 teams. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
