The third annual Horsin’ Around Fishing Rodeo, presented by McMinnville Special Games, will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kylemore Farms.
The event features fishing, food and pony rides for free for special-needs participants ages 5 and up. The event has featured over 30 participants in past years, including caregivers. Lunch this year will include chili dogs with all the fixings, chips, tea, lemonade and sweet treats.
Kylemore Farms is located a half-mile down Viola Road at 500 Kylemore Lane. Event organizers suggest putting 610 Viola Road into GPS devices for navigation to the event.
“Each special fisherman is provided with a life jacket, a fishing pole, and, of course, bait,” said event organizer Holly McBride. “We have several groups coming this year to help baiting hooks and taking fish off for weighing.
“It’s all for fun, but we do award trophies for biggest fish, most fish and the smallest fish.”
This year’s event has been renamed the Tommy Stiles Memorial Horsin’ Around Fishing Rodeo. Stiles was a big supporter of the event before he passed away following an accident last year.
“Tommy was a great man and has been part of Special Games from the beginning,” said McBride. “He was present and helpful at all of our events, but his face lit up especially bright for fishing day. We wanted to honor him in a way that we know he would have loved.”
The event is scheduled to start promptly at 10 a.m. before breaking for lunch at 11:30 a.m. The award ceremony is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
