Sophomore Devin Fish has started off hot for the Pioneers this season.

The Southern Standard, partnering with R3 Logistics and Mud Bums Family Sports Grill, we will be honoring a Pioneer of the Week throughout the year. Our honoree from Nov. 12 - Nov. 18 is WCHS Pioneer Devin Fish.

It may not have been the start that the Pioneers wanted to get off to this season, but Warren County's first week of basketball did reveal one key thing for the program. Sophomore Devin Fish is starting to emerge as a star for the Pioneers.

In Hall of Fame losses against Stewarts Creek and Walker Valley, Fish averaged 13 points and five rebounds as he put his stamp on one of the starting spots in the WCHS lineup.

Devin, son of head coach Danny Fish, was an immediate impact player for the Pioneers during a district title run last season. He was a glue guy of sorts, filling various roles nightly as the Pioneers claimed regular season and tournament titles.

Now being cast into the spotlight, Fish has shown he can handle more of the offensie burden while still providing solid defense and rebounding. He's a fearless attacker off the dribble with enough length and strength to finish in the paint and has great touch on the court, including at the free-throw line where he nailed 7-of-10 shots in the first two games.

Fish and the Pioneers will be looking to build on last week's win over Sparta this week when they travel to face Franklin County Tuesday. Tip-off against the Rebels is set for 7:30 p.m.
