If Warren County High School softball coach David Upton was to pick a song to describe his team’s game against Shelbyville Friday night, he may select George Strait’s “Give it Away.”The Lady Pioneers squandered a golden opportunity to beat the Eaglettes as errors led to a four-run fourth inning that helped Shelbyville win 8-5.Errors and an absent offense were the trends of the first week of the softball season, which led to three losses for the Lady Pioneers. Coach Upton saw his team break out of its offensive slump with a five-run third inning to take the lead Friday, but errors were the team’s demise once again. The Lady Pioneers committed three errors, along with letting two catchable pop flys hit the ground, as Shelbyville stormed back in the fourth.Coach Upton knew his defense was the culprit once again, like when the team committed six errors in a 10-2 loss to Tullahoma Thursday, and he wants his team to step up and take the challenge of making plays.“I thought we played well enough to win, except defensively,” said Upton. “We pitched well enough to win and hit the ball well enough to win.
