The Warren County elementary fifth- and sixth-grade basketball tournaments will begin tomorrow as seven schools will be vying for a championship.
A clear favorite has emerged in boys basketball, while the girls league ended in a two-horse race.
The Warren County Middle School boys team will enter this weekend’s tournament as the No. 1 seed following a perfect 12-0 season.
In the girls league, the Dibrell Lady Wildcats and the Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneers finished with identical 11-1 records. The two teams split the regular-season series, with each team winning at home.
A coin flip determined the No. 1 seed and the Lady Wildcats got the lucky bounce to avoid playing on Thursday night. The Lady Wildcats and WCMS boys team will be the only teams not in action tomorrow night.
Action will be split between two gyms as six games are on the slate for tomorrow.
All girls games will be played at Centertown Gym. Action will begin Thursday with a 5 p.m. game between the No. 4 seed Irving College Lady Tigers and the No. 5 seed Morrison Lady Eagles. Irving College fell to No. 4 after losing its final regular season game to Eastside on Monday night.
With the victory Monday, the Lady Bulldogs earned the No. 3 seed and will face off with the home team, the No. 6 seed Centertown Lady Warriors. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The final game of the night will be the WCMS Lady Pioneers facing the Boyd Lady Broncos at 7:45 p.m. The two teams met in the final night of the regular season Monday and the Lady Pioneers won handily.
Thursday’s boys games will be played at Warren County Middle School gym. The first game will be the Morrison Eagles, who finished the season with a 17-8 win over Centertown to improve to 6-6, playing the Eastside Bulldogs. The matchup between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds will begin at 5 p.m.
The No. 3 seed Dibrell Wildcats will take the court against the Centertown Warriors at 6:30 p.m. and the 10-2 Irving College Tigers will battle the Boyd Broncos at 7:45 p.m. The winners of the final two games Thursday at WCMS will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday night at Centertown gym.
The championship games are set for Saturday night and will be played at Centertown gym.
The finals in the girls league is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the boys game is set for 7:30 p.m.
Consolation games will be played at Centertown Gym on Saturday beginning at noon.
