After two weeks of play, races are beginning to shape up in the Warren County 5-6 grade elementary basketball league.The Morrison Eagles and Eastside Lady Bulldogs have sustained momentum after winning the preseason tournament as both teams sit atop their respective standings, but challengers have emerged in each league.Morrison has won all of its four games by double digits, but the Eagles hold only a one-game lead in the elementary boys standings over the 3-1 Centertown Warriors.Morrison handed Centertown its only loss – a 43-25 defeat on the Eagles’ home floor in which Irving Espinoza established the league’s top scoring output to date.Espinoza poured in 34 points as the Eagles beat the Warriors on the first night of the regular season. Not to be outdone, Centertown center Carter Mansfield responded with 30 points in his team’s next game and has been in double digits in all four contests to seize the league’s scoring lead.Mansfield averages 18 points per game while Espinoza is hot on his heels with an average of 17.8 points per game. The Dibrell Wildcats currently sit in third place at 2-1, led by Micah Webster’s nine points per game.Boyd, led by point guard Heath Kuykendall’s 12.5 points per game, is fourth at 2-2.
