Edward Jones girls enter tourney with perfect record
Maggie Whiles gets ready to throw a ball to home plate during girls 7-9 softball tournament action. Whiles and Edward Jones started the tournament off right with an 11-4 victory over Tennessee Warehouse.

In girls 7-9 softball action Tuesday night, Edward Jones took the field against Tennessee Warehouse, looking to earn the season sweep and remain undefeated. Edward Jones built a four-run lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as it cruised to an 11-4 victory to remain undefeated heading into the tournament.
Lily Rains led the charge at the plate for Edward Jones as she went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a single, and five RBIs. Halle Lowe had three hits, while Maggie Whiles and Annabella Culwell had two. Makayla Cagle, Jerra Jones, Brynlee Chisam and Amaya Martin added a hit apiece.
In the loss for Tennessee Warehouse, Mackenzie Haile and Elizabeth Bryant had two hits, while Malayiah Manier, who had a home run, Lilly Gillespie and Addy Belle Cocke all had a hit apiece.
Edward Jones took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs thanks to Rains’ three-run inside-the-park home run and Culwell’s RBI triple, 4-0, after one.
Tennessee Warehouse battled back in the top of the second and cut the Edward Jones lead to one courtesy of Bryant’s RBI triple and Kenisha Wallace’s 2-RBI single, 4-3.
Edward Jones continued to crush the ball in the bottom of the inning as it saw six runs cross the plate.
Rains hit an RBI single to the outfield that was followed up by Whiles’ 2-RBI double and Culwell’s two-run homerun. Later in the inning the scoring barrage stopped with an RBI single, giving Edward Jones the seven-run lead, 10-3.
Both teams only scored a run apiece the rest of the way as Edward Jones came away with the victory, 11-4, finishing its regular season a perfect 10-0.
