In boys 6-8 baseball action at Hoover Millraney Field, Edward Jones battled Smarty Pants. Edward Jones earned the victory in a high-scoring game, 12-7, which saw them score in every inning.
Owen Frye, Jonas Bailey and Hayden Fults led Edward Jones at the plate with a homerun apiece.
Jack Steggal led Smarty Pants at the plate despite the loss, going 3-for-3 with a single, triple and a homerun. Braylor Jones contributed a 2-for-3 night with two triples and Walt Wrather went 3-for-3 with a single, double and a triple, just missing the cycle.
Edward Jones got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning thanks to a two-run homerun by Bailey, 2-0. Smarty Pants cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning when Steggal hit an RBI single, scoring Wrather, 2-1, after one.
Edward Jones added four runs to its lead in the top of the second courtesy of an RBI single by Sweeton, 3-1. A few batters later Frye came up and smacked a three-run shot over the fence, widening the lead to five, 6-1, heading into the bottom of the inning.
An RBI triple by Jones and an RBI double by Wrather had Smarty Pants back in the ballgame, 6-3. Steggal came up a batter later and crushed a two-run homerun to cut the Edward Jones lead to one, 6-5.
The Edward Jones bats remained hot in the top of the third as they scored four more runs thanks to an RBI triple by Barrett McGinnes and a three-run homerun by Hayden Fults, 10-5.
Smarty Pants failed to cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning as it went down in order in the bottom of the inning.
Edward Jones scored two runs in the top of the fourth as they continued to hold a commanding lead, heading into the bottom of the inning.
Wrather and Steggal hit RBI triples in the bottom of the inning but that was all of the scoring Smarty Pants managed to get, ultimately losing the game, despite some impressive hitting, 12-7.
