Donald Hillis wins thriller over Bob Young's Nursery

Donald Hillis hitter Jax Patterson played two games Tuesday as his team made a run for the tournament championship. Patterson scored 2 runs against Bob Youngs Nursery before playing Brents Computers.
Donald Hillis Realty made it through a series of playoff games to get to the boys ages 9-11 tournament finals Tuesday night by first defeating Bob Young’s Nursery in a tight 4-3 victory.Both teams played scrappy all season, with Donald Hillis winning season-champion honors and Bob Young’s coming in second.Donald Hillis took an early 2-run lead in the bottom of the first after Jax Patterson and Connor Williams worked their way around all four bases.Bob Young’s responded in kind, with 2 runs in the second after Andrew Key and Aiden Young found home to tie the game, 2-2.Williams drove Patterson home in the third giving Donald Hillis the 3-2 lead, and Kyler Robinson tacked on 1 more in the fourth increasing the total tally, handing Bob Young’s a 2-run deficit to recover from and not much time to do it.With the clock winding down, Bob Young’s knew it had to make a run in the fifth, and closed the gap after Alex van Vuuren scored his second run of the contest. Donald Hillis retired the inning before Young’s could add another score to tie.Trophies were given after the game recognizing Donald Hillis as season champions and Bob Young’s as runner-up to finish another youth league season at McMinnville Civic Center.The boys ages 9-11 teams were the last to finish this year, after rain and the Fourth of July holiday extended the season which is usually completed by early July.“I like seeing the kids have fun, laughing and learning the game” said Terry Beard, athletic director for McMinnville Civic Center. Beard handles all the logistics of youth league ball from making sure the fields are maintained to keeping a staff of umpires to call the games.
