When Centertown drained a 3-pointer midway through the first quarter, Dibrell held a 9-5 lead.
Dibrell would answer by scoring the next 31 straight points on the way to earning a 40-11 win Monday night in Centertown.
The win keeps Dibrell unbeaten at 4-0, while Centertown falls to 1-4.
Chance Whitlock led Dibrell with 10 points and was the game-high scorer. Lee-Allen Esparza added 7.
Centertown’s top scorer was Kiptyn Medley with 6.
It was Medley who drained a first-quarter 3-pointer to cut Dibrell’s lead to 9-5 and it looked like it might be an interesting game. The Wildcats decided to end the suspense early.
Dibrell held Centertown scoreless in the second and third quarters to take a commanding lead. Dibrell was up 40-5 late in the game when Centertown’s Lealon Arnold hit a 10-foot jumper with 1:31 left to end the long drought and make the score 40-7.
Dibrell dominated every facet of the game, especially when the Wildcats were on defense. Centertown couldn’t find a way to score against a very active Dibrell zone led by Kaden Pendergraph.
Pedergraph is skilled at creating steals and throwing the ball ahead to a streaking guard for a fast-break opportunity. He will also dive on the floor to pursue a loose ball.
It was a game where everything seemed to go Dibrell’s way. Wildcat point guard Lee-Allen Esparza made a long jumper just beating the first-quarter buzzer to put Dibrell ahead 15-5. It would be that kind of game for the Wildcats.
Whitlock controlled the boards and was a consistent scorer in the post. Jace Matheney slipped around his defender and drove to the basket for a layup, and Cason Davis drained a 3-pointer. Everything went Dibrell’s way.
