It was business as usual for the Dibrell Lady Wildcats Thursday night at J.K. Stanley Gymnasium.
The Lady Wildcats improved to a perfect 9-0 with a 45-16 victory over the home-standing Boyd Lady Broncos.
MaKenna Mason was a one-woman wrecking crew as she outscored the entire Lady Bronco squad on its home court. Mason scored a season-high 18 points as Dibrell won its ninth straight game with relative ease.
Dibrell got started quick as Mason scored half of her points in the first period. With their point guard leading the way, the Lady Wildcats took an 11-4 lead after six minutes.
Dibrell kept the pressure on in the second period. Mason added six more points and spearheaded a Lady Wildcat defense that concentrated on Boyd forward Elahanna Kastello. Kastello came into the game averaging nine points per game – the third highest mark in the league – and Dibrell wanted to keep that number down.
Kastello was held to six points – tied for the team high with Alaina Stiles – as Boyd couldn’t keep up with the Lady Wildcats.
Dibrell led 25-8 at halftime and kept building on its lead after the break. Rhealee Johnson and Sadie Simmons each had four points in the second half to spur the Lady Wildcats to the 29-point victory.
Johnson finished with eight points, followed by Simmons with six. Calyn Damon, Kylie Young, Kaydee Rains, Linley Wanamaker and Breanna Jones tallied two points apiece.
Ashley Vandagriff added four fourth-quarter points for Boyd. The Lady Broncos fell to 3-6 with the loss.
In other elementary action, Eastside kept its second-place spot with a 40-18 win over Centertown.
League-leading scorer Kapri Talley powered the Lady Bulldogs to victory with a season-high 20 points Thursday night. Talley had 18 points before halftime as Eastside built a 26-4 lead.
Grayson Hillis added eight points for the Lady Bulldogs, who are now 7-1 this season. Rounding out the scoring was Rylie Crawford with four and Lexi Loader, Katie Bost, Kylee Yates and Alanis Cripps with two points each.
The Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneers took over sole possession of third place with a 28-12 win over Morrison Thursday night.
Warren County improved to 5-3 by riding the hot hand of Kinsley Lorance, who outscored the Lady Eagles on her own with 14 points. Savannah Cox added eight points and Hallie Jo Pennington chipped in six for the Lady Pioneers.
Chelsea Martin tallied nine for the Lady Eagles – who fell to 1-8 – while Kaitlyn Ramsey had three points.
