The best game of the night Thursday in the Masonic Lodge tournament at Warren County High School wasn’t one of the two games deciding who would be boys, and who would be girls champions.
The two championship games were decided by a definitive margin.
Instead, it was a battle in the loser’s bracket for the bronze medal where the competition was the keenest. The Lady Wildcats of Dibrell showed they had the sharpest teeth and represented Warren County well against North’s Lady Warriors.
In fact, with less than a minute left on the clock, 29-28, with 22 seconds remaining, each team’s destiny was theirs to command. Things looked bright for the Lady Warriors. They had a clear pass up court, took it and the post couldn’t get it for the layup. It was a miscue and possession was turned over to Dibrell.
In a flash, Dibrell’s Kylie Young got the ball into the air for a buzzer-beater ending just like a good film, 30-29.
Most of the game played out much the same way. Each team played as one to see whose will would stand. Even after three quarters it still remained a tie, 23-23. There, for a brief moment, it looked like Dibrell was slipping down by four points but the Lady Wildcats just took it right back and went.
Young did top Dibrell’s scoring with 13 points, followed by Sadie Simmons 8, Rhealee Johnson 7 and JuJu Pyburn with 2 points.
