The Dibrell Lady Wildcats played host to the Lady Warriors of Centertown on Thursday night and Dibrell hit the Lady Warriors with everything in its arsenal in the second half and sent the Lady Warriors packing.
A 25-6 second-half effort cemented the win for Dibrell over Centertown, 35-16.
Rhealee Johnson for Dibrell led all scorers with a game-high 15 points backed by an explosive 11-point third quarter.
The two teams battled throughout the first half and entered the locker rooms at the half locked at 10.
Dibrell came out on a mission in the third quarter and the Lady Wildcat defense mauled the Lady Warriors. Scoreless in the first two periods, Taylor Pegg got her only two points of the game in the third.
Centertown lost its rhythm and never was able to settle into any type of half-court offense and the Lady Wildcats capitalized.
Johnson was unstoppable in the third and she attacked over and over again. She was fouled on her way to the rim twice and sent to the free-throw line where she shot 3-of-4 and finished the third quarter with 11. Calyn Damon and Sadie Simmons also knocked down shots for Dibrell by the end of the period.
Dibrell stayed on the attack in the fourth and kept pressure on the ball and forced Centertown to play from behind. Madalyn Stubblefield scored inside and then was sent to the free-throw line where she shot a perfect 2-of-2. The offense was not enough to claim the lead from Dibrell.
Kylie Young led the late surge from Dibrell and the Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Warriors by a final score of 35-16.
The first two quarters of this contest was a back-and-forth battle and neither gained an advantage. Johnson for Dibrell and Stubblefield for Centertown were the two player who tried to set the tone for the rest of the game.
