Dibrell brought its A-game Monday night in the first round of the 7-8 grade WCEBA tournament, winning handily, 50-14, over Irving College’s Tigers.
The contest looked almost like a first-half shutout for the Wildcats until Tiger Abram Stinson garnered a point from the charity stripe, 31-1, at the break.
Irving College was handing out turnovers like candy at Halloween, and the Wildcats took maximum advantage making the Tigers offensive attack at the basket a one-way trip on each possession. Combined with boards from the outside shots the Tigers were taking, Irving College’s offense just couldn’t gain any traction.
“I’m proud of the team. They played a good game,” said Dibrell head coach Dustin Curtis. “Now we have to get ready to play Morrison on Thursday.”
Dibrell really had the chance to spread out its offense and use the bench, and 12 players posted points in the game.
Heading up the Dibrell scoring drive was Elrod Bryson who totaled 12 points, a game-high.
Stinson led the scoring for the Tigers with 7 points adding two treys to his total in the third quarter, Kyle Clendenon added 5, and Carson Campbell had 2 points.
There weren’t many free throws in the game, with Dibrell missing the one shot from the foul line the Wildcats were given and Irving College hitting 1-of-6 for 17 percent.
Also scoring for the Wildcats were Caleb Wood, Aaron Ashburn and Rheagan Woodlee, all with 6 points, Will Wrisner and Jordan Sandlin both had 4, Caden Davis 3, Cooper Tittsworth, Tyler Heathcock, Matthew Young and Hagan Stewart all hit for 2 points apiece while Nathan Elrod posted 1 point.
Dibrell will play the Morrison Eagles in round two Thursday at Warren County High School. Game time is 8:15 p.m.
