Dibrell beats Bulldogs for third place

Dibrell’s 7-8 grade Wildcats took third place with a 45-38 win over Eastside’s Bulldogs on Saturday in the season-concluding 7-8 grade county tournament at Warren County High School.“We don’t quit,” said Dibrell Wildcat coach Dustin Curtis. “We just kept battling and we came through in the end.”Down but not out, 17-8, after the first quarter, the Wildcats rallied by blanking Eastside 10-0 in the second to hold an 18-17 one-point lead at the half.From there on out, it was all Dibrell as the Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 27-21 in second-half action.Although Eastside had an impressive free-throw margin, going 14-of-23 for 61 percent while Dibrell was 5-of-15, the percentage wasn’t indicative of winning in this contest.Dibrell distributed the ball well, with seven players posting points and, while Eastside won the individual scoring high total, the Wildcat’s were more consistent with Bryson Elrod hitting for 9 points, Aaron Ashburn and Hagan Stewart both hit for 8, Rheagan Woodlee and Jake Jones both scored 7, Will Wrisner 4 and Jordan Sandlin scored 2 points.Eastside scoring was headed by Cruz Reyes with 15 total points, including two treys, and 5-of-5 fourth-quarter foul shots, Dylan Partain 9, Caden Beaty 8 and Alec Hobbs and Alec Jones both scored 2 points.
