Monday will be a big day for Covenant soccer.
Both Lion teams will be in action as they try to hold on to the top spots in the TNCAA conference against West Academy. The home games will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a middle school matchup. The high school game will be a special night for seniors as they will be honored before the 6 p.m. matchup.
“We have had a good season so far,” said coach Chris Madewell. “Monday’s games will decide if we stay in first in our division. Our middle school tied West Academy last time and our high school barely beat them, 2-1, last time.”
The middle school Lions have compiled a 4-1-1 record, good for a tie for the southern division lead in the TNCAA. The Covenant High School soccer team currently has sole possession of the southern division lead with a 6-1 record, led by top goal scorer Terry Hines. Hines already has eclipsed 10 goals in just seven games.
Covenant will recognize seniors Emma Grace Madewell, Alex Stovall and Andrew Palmer before Monday’s game. The group has been at the forefront in establishing the Lions as one of the top programs in the TNCAA.
“They’ve been solid, hard-working and dedicated to the team,” said coach Madewell. “They’re not super vocal, but they lead with their actions. They never give up.”
Palmer will not be able to suit up in Monday’s game after suffering a collarbone injury.
Covenant will stay busy next week, playing three games. Following Monday’s home finale, the Lions will travel to play Dayspring Academy Tuesday and Lancaster Academy Friday.
