A cornhole tournament has been set for next weekend with teams around Middle Tennessee expected to compete.

Bags and BBQ Cornhole Tournament is set for Saturday, May 23, at Wild Bill’s BBQ and Grill, the old VFW. Registration starts at 1 p.m. and the tournament begins at 2 p.m. The entry fee is $40 per two-person team.

Event organizer Mike Martin says he’s contacted cornhole associations in Nashville and Chattanooga to have the local tournament posted on their social media sites. The tournament is open to all ages and all skill levels. It will be double elimination.

“I expect to have some really good players here,” said Martin. “I played in a tournament similar to this one in Murfreesboro a couple months ago and the skill level was really high. I expect we’ll have about 20 teams and for it to be a really competitive tournament.”

Cornhole has been a popular backyard game for years. For players who are a little more serious, the American Cornhole Organization is the governing body for the sport.

Martin says there are ACO affiliations in bigger cities and he is working to establish one here. Players who compete in ACO-sponsored events accumulate points and can be ranked. Becoming an ACO member can be done online.

No pre-registration is required for the Saturday, May 23 tournament. Food and beverages will be available from Wild Bill’s BBQ.
