A close game for four innings turned into a big road win for Coffee County Friday at Warren County Middle School. The Pioneers looked poised to pick up a crucial CTC victory, but the Raiders rolled off seven unanswered runs in the final three innings to beat WCMS 8-2.
Warren County (3-4) held a 2-1 lead entering the fifth after Brady Norris was hit with the bases loaded in the fourth, but the Pioneers couldn't come up with clutch hits. WCMS left the bases loaded in the second and fourth innings and hit into inning-ending double plays in the fifth and sixth innings when it needed runs.
Coffee County countered by taking advantage of six free passes in the late innings (and a passed ball that scored two in the seventh) to build its lead.
Norris had one hit, one RBI and scored in the third on a Ryder Gilispie groundout to pace the Pioneer offense. Braden Whinnery had the only other hit for WCMS in its third straight loss.
