Warren County High School head basketball head coach Chris Sullens recently won his 100th career basketball game at Warren County against Community.
Presently, coach Sullens has 102 wins and 88 loses in his seventh season as Warren County’s head coach.
Sullens went 1-22 and 16-20 his first two years, which account for 42 of his 88 loses. Sullens has averaged 20.5 wins over the past four seasons, a big improvement from his first two seasons.
Sullens commented on the significance of reaching 100 wins, “Coach Luna, coach Jacobs, and coach Keil had success here. I took what I saw and learned from them and tried to apply it. I never got into this to say that we won a certain level of ball games. I got into this to make Warren County basketball relevant again. I think our program is relevant and respected. When teams step on the court against us, they know that we play hard. The wins take care of themselves.”
Every year coach Sullens calculates how many wins the seniors have when they leave the program. The idea is to have 80 wins over their four-year high school career. This year’s seniors have a real possibility of reaching 78-80 wins.
Coach Bobby Luna is presently the head basketball coach at Gallatin High School, and he has over 500 career wins. He was one of Sullens’ coaches when Sullens was a high school basketball player at Warren County.
Luna was quick to praise Sullens. Coach Luna said, “Congratulations to coach Sullens and the Pioneers on his milestone 100th win as a head coach. Great to see the hard work and investment in the school and community be rewarded. It has to be special as a former Pioneer player and lifelong resident of Warren County. Keep working hard, but remember to enjoy the successes along the way. Good luck and continued success to coach Sullens and the Pioneers.”
The Pioneers are back in action after the Thanksgiving break this Monday at Coffee County in a non-district game. Although he may not be keeping track of his wins, Coach Sullens can achieve win 103 Monday night.
