The WCHS girls tennis team was too deep and too talented for DeKalb County at home Thursday. The Lady Pioneers rolled to a 10-0 victory in the match, sweeping the singles and doubles sets against their district and border rival.

Coach Matt Jackson knew his Lady Pioneers had the ability to make a big run this year after bringing back several quality players. Even without one of the team's top players (London Caten was unable to play Thursday) against the Tigers, the Lady Pioneers were dominant in their District 7AA home debut.

Izzy Pitts and Susanna Netherton set the tone in the No. 1 doubles pairing. The duo was able to win 9-8, surviving a fierce rally from Charlotte Paladino and Brynn Harvey to start a wave of winning.

Netherton had a clutch volley at the net during a 7-4 tiebreaker to decide the match, while Pitts shut the door with a pair of perfectly placed drop shots that DeKalb County couldn't return.

In No. 2 doubles, Rachel Jackson and Ranna Takahashi - dubbed 'Thunder and Lightning' by their teammates for their love of hard-hitting shots at the net - cruised to an 8-1 victory. It was followed up by an 8-2 victory by Abby Graves and Elizabeth Templos in the No. 3 doubles pairing.

Splitting up the rising stars for the Lady Pioneers on the court didn't help DeKalb County's chances of picking up wins. Warren County was just as strong in singles, winning all seven sets.

Graves topped Paladino 8-5 in the No.1 singles pairing, one of the few times the Tigers stayed close to the Lady Pioneers. Dominance followed  in singles for Warren County as Pitts (8-1 over Harvey), Netherton (8-3 over Tess Barton), Jackson (8-0 over Slyvia Evans), Takahashi (8-0 over Abby Crook) and Emma Dillon (8-1 over Taylor Patterson) all cruised to wins.

Addison Wittekind closed out a perfect day for the Lady Pioneers with a 6-4 win in an exhibition match.

Warren County will hope to continue its good fortune at home in matchups with White County Tuesday and Upperman Thursday.
