Civic Center to hold state tournament

McMinnville Parks and Recreation has been working diligently this season to make improvements to their baseball fields. They’ll get a chance to showcase those changes this weekend.The Cal Ripken 7-8 boys machine-pitch state tournament will be held this week at McMinnville Civic Center with games beginning Thursday, July 4 and ending Sunday, July 7.Games will be played on the Sam Martin and Dottie West fields, which have gotten major makeovers during the course of the McMinnville Youth Baseball seasons. McMinnville Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord and MYB commissioner Dell Watson envisioned the state tournament as a way to showcase the Civic Center facilities and went to work on the Sam Martin and Dottie West fields throughout the year.Both fields received new outfield fences, which includes the distance of each field posted in left, right and center fields.
