Centertown impressive in win against Eastside

Centertown coach Kelly Eckenrod has guided the Lady Warriors to a 5-1 start.

Maybe somebody should have called the Centertown Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday night because Allie Melton was on fire.

The Centertown Lady Warrior scored a career-high 21 points and Centertown coasted to a 38-17 win over Eastside.

Melton made shots from all over the floor, including two 3-pointers, in helping Centertown improve to 5-1.

It was expected to be a tight battle between two of the league’s top girls teams. Both entered the game 4-1 and looking to catch unbeaten Morrison atop the standings.

The close game never materialized as Melton and the Centertown defense were the stories of the game. Eastside only made one basket from the floor the entire first half as the Lady Bulldogs were held to 4 points.

Centertown didn’t have any trouble scoring the basketball, including a 4-for-4 performance from Presley Bonner from the free throw line. The Lady Warriors were up 19-4 at the half and well on their way to victory.

Eastside spectacular sixth-grader Sarah-Kate Winfree has been playing up on the 7-8 grade level and she’s been a tough girl to stop. Winfree managed 10 points Tuesday night, although Centertown was able to slow her until the fourth.
