When the Centertown Lady Warriors and Irving College Lady Tigers took the floor Tuesday night at Charlie Dalton Gym, it was as if both teams were looking in the mirror. In a game where both teams wanted to slow down the pace and play solid defense, it was the Lady Warriors who were able to accomplish their goal. Centertown won 20-14 by holding Irving College to three points in the second half. The Lady Warriors are accustomed to playing low-scoring games, but their opponent was equally adept at winning without scoring much. The Lady Tigers gained the upperhand early when post Jordan Bess scored four points in the first quarter to help Irving College build a 6-4 lead. After Bess scored her third basket of the first half, Centertown locked down the elite post and began to seize the momentum. Back-to-back baskets from Brionnia Melton and a late three-point play from Hope Valenta gave the Lady Warriors a 13-11 lead at halftime. After the break, neither team would back down defensively as scoring was at a premium.
