Blaine Wilson elevates his game to new heights in the final period and helps Boyd cement the win over the Riverside Christian Knights on Friday.

The Boyd Christian Broncos went medieval in Westwood on Friday night and hosted the Riverside Christian Knights from Fayetteville. The back-and-forth game had several lead changes before Boyd finally outlasted and defeated Riverside, 75-64.
Bronco Trey Cantrell scored a game-high 30 points, his career best. Cantrell was lethal from behind the 3-point line and was almost perfect from the free-throw line. He shot 15-of-18 from the charity stripe in the win.
At the end of the third quarter, Riverside led 56-53. The Bronco defense somehow found enough in the tank and ran the fourth quarter on fumes. Boyd outscored Riverside 22-8 in the final eight minutes to capture the win.
Cantrell sparked the offense with a 3-pointer over the Knight defender to start the fourth. Blaine Wilson took his chances as he drove the lane and hoisted a high-floating shot over two defenders. Tyler Beaty knocked down a mid-range jumper as the Broncos started to pull away.
The story of the fourth quarter was the free throws hit by Boyd. The Broncos shot 11-of-14 from the free-throw line and Riverside shot a dismal 0-for-2.
Eli Wright for Riverside tried his best to keep it close. The sharp-shooting guard pulled the trigger twice and hit from behind the 3-point line. Wright hit five 3-pointers in all. He was the only offense in the final eight minutes for the Knights.
The Broncos controlled both ends of the court in the final eight minutes and pulled away from Riverside. The third quarter was just the opposite for the Broncos and the Knights controlled the pace. Riverside launched an aerial assault from behind the 3-point line and three different players combined for five 3-pointers in the third. Will Eldridge had two of those and slipped inside for an easy basket. He was fouled and completed the three-point play.
Boyd attempted to keep pace with the Knights in the third but the shot selection was off. Poor shot choices doomed the Broncos in the third. Cantrell buried a pair of 3’s from deep and Tyler Pomales connected on his second 3-pointer. Despite the Broncos best effort in the third, the Knights had reclaimed the lead at the end of the third, 56-53.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle of will for the two teams. Riverside took an early 20-17 lead at the end of the first. The Bronco defense broke down and left the Knights open from behind the arch. The Knights knocked down five 3-pointers in just the first eight minutes.
Boyd responded with two deep 3’s and a wagon full of free throws by Cantrell. He shot 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the first and Boyd trailed by three after one. However, Boyd claimed the lead at the half, 35-32.
