Boyd’s comfortable halftime lead got uncomfortably close Tuesday morning during the Thanksgiving Shootout at Covenant Academy.

Covenant mounted a fierce second-half charge behind the unstoppable scoring of Noah Mason, but Boyd held on for a 91-83 victory in the crosstown rivalry.

“Mr. Offense” Christian Rogers led the Boyd attack with 30 points and he was helped by sharpshooter Cameron Chilcutt, who drained four 3-pointers on his way to 21 points.

Boyd jumped out to a 33-21 lead in the first quarter as everything was clicking for the Bronco offense.

Mason did his part to keep Covenant in the game with 13 points and Luke Campbell added a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Boyd was up 50-34 at the half.

Covenant came storming back in the second half as D.J. Moore scored all 8 of his points in the third quarter and Mason was incredibly strong down the stretch. In addition to hitting shots all over the court, Mason was 4-of-4 from the line.
