Thanksgiving break found the Boyd Broncos on the tournament trail as they competed in their toughest challenge yet during the Richard Hardy Memorial Basketball Tournament Nov. 23-26.Their first matchup Wednesday was truly a David versus Goliath scenario, as the 60-student high school of Boyd Christian took on the AAA District 5 giant of McMinn County. Although the Broncos were down, 29-20, going into the break, the Cherokees’ depth and ability to platoon sub was just too much going down the stretch and McMinn would extend its margin for a 73-47 win. Boyd seniors Trey Cantrell and Tyler Beaty led the scoring drive for the Broncos with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Two hours later, the Broncos hit the hardwood again against the fresh legs of the AA District 6 Howard Tech High School Tigers out of Chattanooga.
