Boyd wins big

Bryant Ralph gives the ball a big boot during Thursday's stormy game at Boyd. The Broncos won 9-4.

The weather was far from perfect Thursday when Boyd welcomed in Dayspring Academy for a soccer match, but the end result was exactly what the Broncos wanted.

Boyd completed a sweep of the Shires, winning 9-4 on its home field. It was very similar to the first victory of the season when the Broncos went on the road to win 8-4.

Jack Oliver led the way for the Broncos, netting a hat trick as he helped get the team on the board early and often. Oliver scored once in the first half, powering the team to a 3-1 halftime advantage, then netted two more when Boyd really found its groove after the break.

Cydney Jane Perry, Jordan Perry and Connor Andrews also got into the scoring column as Boyd picked up another TNCAA conference victory.

The team's defense was also a bright spot early as keeper Jaxon Grissom kept the Shires off the board until the final second of the first half. Grissom made two key stops to build momentum for Boyd,  breaking up an early 1-on-1 situation with a diving punchout to his right and adding a second sliding save to his left on a 2-on-1 situation. His hard work in the goal kept Boyd in front until the scoring, led by Oliver, picked up in a big way in the second half.
