The Boyd Lady Broncos keep climbing to heights never reached before.
The Lady Broncos continued to dazzle Thursday night against Bradley, earning their 30th win of the season. It’s the first time in school history the Lady Broncos have won 30 games.
Prior to this season, the 2016-17 Lady Broncos held the distinction for most wins. That team won 21 games.
“I'm incredibly proud of all the girls this season,” said Boyd coach Tim Page. “They put in so much work this past year and have really bought in to the culture here at Boyd. This group is really a family and lives by their motto this year ‘Eat together, Grind Together, Shine Together.’ A team that does things as one, whether win or lose, is something special and much more important than their record.”
Page continued, “On the court, I knew this team could be special and win a lot of games, but the way in which they've been able to do it has been really fun to watch. It's taken a complete team effort of all 10 girls. With our defensive style, we have to accept that there will be times when we have to deal with foul trouble and our second unit has stepped up to provide valuable minutes and that will only give them more experience in the coming years. Lastly, this success doesn't come without the support from our parents. They too endure a long season but ours are there each and every day. And the fans! They have embraced this team and have given us a true home court advantage at J.K. Stanley Gymnasium.”
In a season characterized by dominating victories, it was perfectly fitting for Boyd to capture its 30th win in runaway fashion.
The Lady Broncos held Bradley to 5 points in the second half on their way to a 60-21 road win Thursday night.
Boyd point guard Laney Copeland has been an all-star all season and she showed up again against Bradley. Copeland scored 20 points in the first half to help Boyd to a 36-18 halftime lead.
If Bradley entertained any hopes of a second-half comeback leaving the locker room, those thoughts were trampled in the third quarter as the Lady Broncos came out kicking and screaming.
Boyd’s defense was relentless, holding Bradley to just 1 point in the third. That allowed the celebration to start early with Boyd comfortably on top 52-19 entering the fourth.
