The Eastside and Boyd 7-8 grade boys game looked promising for the Boyd Broncos, but the Bulldogs ran right past them winning 47-23 on Thursday night at Eastside.
Boyd started hot with Jack Rhoton scoring a 3-pointer to kick off the night. Rhoton finished with a team-high 13.
In return, Eastside’s Donnivian Johnson converted a few turnovers into layups and hit a 3-pointer of his own. Johnson finished with a game-high 18.
Rhoton made a few jump shots to try and keep up, but Eastside ended the first quarter with a lead of 15-7.
At the start of the second quarter, the Broncos had a hot start with Bryant Ralph sinking a 3-pointer and Rhoton following up with another 3, closing the gap to 2 points. Noticing the momentum shift, the Bulldogs turned it up with Lex Winfree nailing baskets under the goal.
By halftime, Eastside gained a huge lead, 28-13. In the third quarter, the Bulldogs had the Broncos figured out, making any chance of a comeback slim.
Winfree didn’t score as much in the second half, but his defense was noticeably impressive blocking shots. His defense did put him in foul trouble eventually, but he continued getting rebounds.
Eastside’s Christian Munoz hit his stride making a layup and a 3-pointer in the fourth. The Bulldogs got a little feisty and got into some foul trouble committing 10 fouls in the second half. The Broncos, however, were not hitting their free throws.
Eastside defeated Boyd 47-23 with both teams showing promise. Making 3-point shots is a strength of both teams with a combined 10 for the game.
