Ben Lomand Connect looked to knock off Holton Industries on Monday and both teams came out firing through the first four innings. Ben Lomand Connect scored the tying run in the bottom of the fourth to lock the game at 10 each.
Holton Industries’ offense struggled for the first time in the top of the fifth after the Ben Lomand Connect defense stepped up big with a bang-bang double play. Ben Lomand Connect carried the momentum with them back to the plate and scored five additional runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and defeated Holton Industries 15-10.
In the top of the fifth and the score tied at 10-10, Haley Smith led the inning off with a base hit for Holton Industries. Isabella Pennington sent her hit into a huge hole in the defense for a double and Smith held up at third. Lily Smith singled to the infield and the bases were loaded for Holton Industries. Annabella Reintz stepped to the plate and in a strange turn of events she popped the ball up toward shortstop and the base runners were off.
Halle Lowe made the grab to everyone’s surprise and after she secured the ball, Lowe headed over to second and beat the runner back for a double play. Out three followed and that one play shifted the momentum back in favor of Ben Lomand Connect.
In the bottom of the fifth, Aspen Adams and Briley Jones started with back-to-back singles and Kiersten Smith went deep with a double to the outfield and cleared the bases.
With a 12-10 lead, Kyren Damon went deep with a second consecutive double and the score was 13-10. Abigail Fann was up next to reach base with a hit through the defense, Smith and Damon were waved around. With two outs, Maddox Adams put the ball in play on the ground and scored Damon and Fan for a 15-10 lead to end the inning and the game.
In the top of the first, Holton Industries had two runners on base when Isabella Pennington crushed a pitch that went well beyond the defense for a home run and the score was 3-0. Lily Smith made her way around the bases before the third out ended the inning.
Ben Lomand Connect went on offense in the bottom half of the first and rang up five straight runs to claim the lead 5-4.
In the top of the second, defense was the name of the game. Despite Holton Industries best effort, the Ben Lomand Connect defense held them to only three more runs in the inning and Holton Industries went back out front 7-5.
In the bottom of the second, Ben Lomand Connect locked the score at 7-7.
In to the top of the third, the defense from Ben Lomand Connect held Holton Industries to its lowest scoring inning of the game thus far. Crenshaw was the only plyer to make it across the plate but her run put Holton Industries in the lead, 8-7.
The offense of Ben Lomand Connect dug down deep in the bottom of the third. Maddox Adams and Aspen Adams were able to find their way safely around the infield and when the final out was made Ben Lomand Connect had leaped back into the lead at 9-7.
Holton Industries was not going to just roll over and in the top of the fourth a pair of hits, a single and a double by Reintz and Crenshaw, allowed Holton Industries to reclaim the lead at 10-9. Allie Melton also helped with a base hit for Holton Industries.
In this back-and-forth game Ben Lomand Connect trailed by a single run at 10-9. Lowe stepped into the batter’s box and smacked a line-drive base hit. Fann crushed a pitch for a double and Lowe crossed the plate to lock the game at 10-10 before the final two outs were made.
