Tourney for veterans nets $5K

A day of golf at McMinnville Country Club will help give families of veterans a home away from home near Mufreesboro’s Alvin C. York Medical Center. The first Fisher House Tennessee fundraiser golf tournament held at McMinnville Country Club Friday raised over $5,000 – a figure Fisher House president Andrea Lawrence was ecstatic with as she attended the 18-hole event in McMinnville.The tournament was played by 68 individuals who formed 17 teams vying for the tournament championship. The team of Hank Patton, Zack Molloy, Pieter Van Vuuren and Phil Whisenhunt claimed the inaugural title with a round of 19-under at the par-72 course.Others who attended and played in the event were state Sen. Janice Bowling, singer and songwriter Jacky Jack White and General Sessions Judge Bill Locke.Locke was part of the second-place team – which also included Allen Hitchcock, Steve Biles and Whit Taylor – that finished the day 17-under.
