Warren County Pioneer football is about to break loose again for the 2015 season and I have made several trips to the high school this week to visit with coaches and observe some of the summer practices. Tom Moore has a huge task ahead of him and he seems very eager to get going despite playing against some power house teams in the middle Tennessee area.
Being at the practices I can say just from what I have seen, these guys deserve our support. I was there very briefly and these young guys are putting in hard work. It was very hot the two days I was there. When the players were awarded a water break no one talked and everyone seemed more interested in getting a drink than anything else.
Play after play, drill after drill the guys continued to grind out the effort. All I could think about was these guys are not even in pads yet. More weight, more heat, but these players are building up a tolerance and an endurance. Coach Moore says the players are working hard in the weight room and that is as important as the team’s workout on the practice field.
I got to meet one of the new assistant coaches and he seemed very eager to get started. We were informed via email that the new assistant had a history with an incident at his previous school. I was not in any type of hurry to talk about this with him. When confronted about the incident, the assistant coach was first caught by surprise we knew about the incident.
After we spoke several minutes he was more than willing to talk about it. The coach says he just wants to be honest with people and continue to move forward. The incident happened two years ago, and my thoughts are, it was covered, and now it’s over. Good luck to the new assistant and all of the other assistant coaches.
I had the pleasure to hear Coach Moore speak at the Noon Rotary meeting on Thursday afternoon and couldn’t help but notice the coach spoke very highly of his dad and the influence he played in his life. Moore spoke about his dad’s health and the importance of hearing from him every day. The story on Noon Rotary will be coming up this Wednesday.
These coaches along with the Pioneers need our support this season. It is the opinion of several knowledgeable football sources that the district is going to be tough, and instead of tearing people down, let’s start building people up. We need it and the world needs it now more than ever. Right on.
