If you were hiding under a rock for the NCAA men’s game, you missed one of the best games I personally have watched in quite some time. Duke defeated Wisconsin but it wasn’t for lack of effort by the Badgers.
Several conversations have sparked interest in the officiating around the editorial room. The call where the ball clearly went out off a Duke player’s fingertips and the worst part is the play was reviewed for several minutes and they still got it wrong. Duke clearly made plays when they needed them and it goes to show you what I have said time and time again. It does not matter where you start, it is where you finish.
That would lead us to here, as if we don’t hear Tony Romo mentioned enough during football season, now we have to hear about him as college basketball winds down.
How does an NFL quarterback find his way into conversations about college basketball? It’s all quite relative, especially when you make bets with the winning team’s star freshman.
Romo has never tried to hide the fact he is a super fan of Duke University. Seems Romo had a gentleman’s bet with Duke star Jahlil Okafor captured on Instagram. Romo made a deal with Okafor in 2014 and it says if Okafor wins a national championship, then Romo would need to win a Super Bowl. Oh Romo, when will you learn?
At Eastern Illinois, Romo was three-time OVC Player of the Year, received the Walter Payton Award, was inducted into the Eastern Illinois Hall of Fame and had his number retired by the school.
You play on the highest possible level and you already know how hard it is to make it to the big game, not to mention win it. A game so big you have not even made it to yet, only missing it by one play last year.
It is no secret I for one am not a huge Romo fan. The guy puts up huge numbers during the season but until last year he has produced nothing when it comes to playoffs. Excluding last season, Romo’s typical playoff run included all of one game. Several plays cost them each time and Romo was dubbed “Tony Choko.”
Last time I checked they were not giving out championships for putting up stats. Hall of Fame quarterback Romo may very well be. But in talking a couple of nights ago, even Dallas fans say they need defense.
Dallas star running back who put up huge numbers for Dallas last season has decided to take his talents to Philadelphia for whatever reason, money I am sure being tops on the list, did not even want to stay in Dallas. Rumors are already circulating about a possibility of Adrian Peterson ending up in Dallas.
Romo may have to learn the hard way, when you reach a certain level and you talk, people tend to listen whether you can back it up or not. Good luck Romo on your quest. You and Jerry Jones will need it. Right on.
