Lottery loss means I'm still here

By now it is fairly obvious I was not a winner in the recent $1.5 billion Powerball lottery. I will never try to convince anyone of anything other than the truth. You have heard people say they would not quit their job and so forth.
I politely walked through the office before I left Wednesday and calmly filled everyone in on my intentions if I were to inherit instant billionaire status.
Upon learning of my newfound fortune, I would not show up for work the following day and probably either mail the camera back or just keep it. You may already think in fact it would be giving away my identity by not showing up.
I would have immediately packed up what we consider important and loaded the car to its capacity and disappeared. We can always buy more stuff, right?
Long story short, I didn’t win and I am back at the sports desk. This was the very first Powerball I have participated in and quite possibly the last. It was a long shot and someone was going to win. Why not me.
I hope for the most part this newfound fame and fortune does not ruin more lives. Reading up today I have found so many stories of lies and deceit after winning a lottery drawing. Maybe the winners will lay out some sort of plan for those who decide to bombard them with sad stories looking for handouts.
I for one have enjoyed listening to all the ideas of what people would do with their winnings. Like so many people, I am not sure if we can even comprehend how much money is involved. One person did tell me they wanted to buy the Tennessee Titans. Heck, I just thought about buying a field pass or two.
One man wants to purchase a professional sports team and the other is happy with a field pass. As the drawing got closer I looked at our puppy and said, “It’s been nice but if we win, I am buying a tiger.”
Well it’s neither here nor there and I will still remain on the sidelines for now and somehow manage to fight through the cold-weather months. Basketball is halfway gone and it won’t be long until the local teams take to the diamond.
One of the only things I like more than all the basketball games is the warmer weather. Sorry there just isn’t much comparison when it comes to a skinny guy and warm weather.
By the way, one of the best national championship games was played Monday night. I sure hope no one was disappointed with the level of play no matter who won. I know I wasn’t. Right on.
