Opening our arms to beer
Placeholder Image
Step one for turning downtown McMinnville into a four-block honky tonk is complete.City officials have voted on first read to remove the 300-foot barrier that exists between churches, schools and places that sell beer. With one more successful vote, the barrier will disappear and allow Bob's Bottle O' Beer to locate directly next to a church. So is this a good thing, or would it turn McMinnville in a giant vortex of evil? Would it beam wrongdoing into our community like a "Star Trek" episode, or would the town still be able to function in law-abiding fashion? When it comes to alcohol-related issues, there's seldom any middle ground.
