Don't fly hate at our courthouse

TO THE EDITOR:The request to place a Confederate flag at the courthouse has already stirred up small-town controversy. Warren County commissioners have received 20 pages of testimony from Vanderbilt students opposing the request, presented by my friend Matthew Austin.Unlike Matthew, I don’t have a report from a big-name university to show commissioners. But I do have a little bit of historical context and a story about a boy.Last summer, I worked as a counselor for a science camp in Princeton, N.J. On a field trip one day, a boy in the camp — who, like most of his classmates, was a student of color — spotted a man wearing a Confederate flag bandana.
