TO THE EDITOR:If the horrific massacre in Orlando this past week isn’t enough to cause us to rethink our ideas about the availability of assault weapons, what will?They have been used in most of the mass killings in the past eight years. Could so many be killed if assailants are armed with handguns or rifles?Do we really need assault weapons to defend our homes? Or should we all carry so that we can defend ourselves in our schools, movies, restaurants, bars and even churches.
