Thanks WCMS for basketballs, gifts

To the Editor:
On behalf of Brookside Head Start, I want to thank the Warren County Middle School basketball players for their contributions to the Parent Christmas Project. The players, players' parents, and coaches worked tirelessly to provide a wonderful Christmas for local Head Start students.
What started as a text from me to WCMS head coach Isaiah Phillips asking if they were interested in collecting basketballs for the children, was followed by coaches rallying their players and going above and beyond, providing more than enough basketballs for both Brookside Head Start and Midway Head Start. They also provided items that ranged from coloring books and crayons to hair bows, socks, and hula hoops.
During the toy drive, many of the players expressed a desire to give out the gifts to the students of our local Head Starts. So Friday, after county schools closed for Christmas break, several WCMS basketball players and coach Phillips came to Brookside Head Start to volunteer their time and be part of an amazing project spearhead by former Head Start parent and passionate volunteer, Sabrina Wanamaker.
The athletes in attendance spent time singing Christmas songs, working on crafts, and playing with the students before joining Wanamaker and her family in distributing donations to the parents of our young students.
I want to thank these athletes for being positive role models, not only for our young students but for your fans as well. Thank you for all you have done to make this a memorable holiday season for Head Start students. I pray you all will be bless bountifully in return.
Thank you,
Shannon Melton
