The college football season is quickly approaching, with games getting ready to start this Thursday, including Appalachian State at Tennessee, but the big matchups will be Saturday when Alabama and USC square off in Dallas to kick off the season. Clemson travels to Auburn, and Georgia travels to North Carolina to take on the Tar Heels in a big weekend for SEC football. The end of last season saw Clemson, which defeated Oklahoma in the playoff semifinals, take on Alabama, which shut out Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl, in the national championship game, in one of the most exciting championship games in some time. Alabama won the game, 45-40, but will the Crimson Tide make it back to the college football playoff this year along with the Tigers?Derrick Henry won the Heisman trophy over Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffery after a spectacular season which saw him rush for an SEC record 2,219 yards, rush for 28 touchdowns and go over the century mark 10 times. This year’s Heisman race will have Watson and McCaffery back in the mix and maybe a player familiar to Vol fans in Jalen Hurd in what could be the largest list of Heisman trophy candidates we have seen in some time.Dabo Swinney took home the coach of the year trophy after leading Clemson to an undefeated regular season behind a stout defense and an offense that was almost unstoppable. In saying all this, the college football season should be an exciting one, as it is every year and now I’m going to give my predictions.I’ll start with the Heisman trophy finalists and winner.
