Just a Thought - I'm ready to go to the adult prom

It’s about time someone offered an adult prom in Warren County. Thank you, Holly Walker.

The Masquerade Adult Prom May 19 is probably going to be the best Relay for Life fundraiser I’ve ever attended. I’ll probably receive complaints about that statement. Please remember I do have the right to my opinion.

I’ve long believed this community needs events geared toward adults. I’m not against family-friendly events. They’re awesome. However, now that my children are grown, I’d really like to attend events that do not include children: mine or yours. Sorry.

I’ve already started looking for a dress, shoes and mask. I like that it’s formal or best Sunday dress. That eases the pressure somewhat. The cost is also reasonable: $15 per person or $25 a couple. I’ve been online looking at masks and couples masks are very reasonable, between $29 and $49. I’m sure you could go basic and it be a few dollars.

At this time, I do not know what my mask will look like. Just so you know who I am, I’ll probably have camera in hand. Just because I’m enjoying myself doesn’t mean I can’t cover it for the paper. So, when you see me, smile and pose. Smile and pose. Thank you for your support.
I don’t know how you guys feel about it, but women want to get dressed up, feel pretty and go out for the evening. We want a man to open the door and treat us like we’re special. This night was definitely made for me.

I remember my prom in high school. I was disappointed in the theme. It wasn’t what we voted for, regardless of what school officials stated. They didn’t want our theme to be anything related to the “Dirty Dancing” movie. It was a big hit that year.

My best friend, Melinda Walling, and I showed up wearing similar dresses. Pink with little hearts on the lace. They were more like Cinderella dresses and not like the dresses some girls wear today. No offense, but the amount of skin, cleavage and legs showing in today’s prom dresses seems a bit much. It takes away some of the proper in what should be a formal event.

I regress. Melinda already owned her dress. I purchased mine in Murfreesboro. While most would be unhappy about that situation, she and I were delighted.

While not a Relay for Life fundraiser, coming in second on my list of awesome adult-only events is Sip & Saveur: Tasting and Art Showcase, which is schedule for April 21. It’s an adult-only evening of relaxation in historic downtown McMinnville.

It was fun the first year. Sadly, I missed the next year. I attended last year’s event and met a lovely couple from out of town. They had only praise for the event and downtown’s appearance.

I’m raising a toast to adult-only events. Here’s to more of them.
