Fight Night - A showdown in Sweden

This Saturday the octagon touches down in Sweden when Sweden’s own Alexander “The Mauler” Gustaffson takes on Anthony “Lionheart” Smith in the main event.

Alexander Gustaffson, currently ranked No. 2, is coming off a third-round TKO loss to current champion Jon Jones. Gustaffson (18-5) has been a longtime UFC veteran and to this day is still the only man to take Jon Jones to his limit, almost beating Jones for the light heavyweight title. Many people to this day still believe Gustaffson won the fight. Gustaffson needs to win if he hopes to still be able to fight for a title in the near future.

Anthony Smith, currently ranked No. 4, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Jon Jones. Before the loss, Smith (31-14) was on a three-fight win streak, all by finishes. Smith made his light heavyweight debut at UFC 225 against former champion and soon-to-be Hall of Famer Rashad Evans. Smith knocked out Evans in under a minute in the first round.

A few weeks later, Smith knocked out former champion Maurico “Shogun” Rua in the first round. Then in October, Smith submitted former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir in the third round of their main-event bout. Smith will be looking to earn himself another title shot, and a win over a veteran like Gustaffson will surely put him on the right path.

The co-main event was supposed to feature Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir against Sweden’s own Ilir “The Sledgehammer” Latifi, but had to be pulled after Latifi suffered a back injury.

I’m picking Smith to pick up a win in the main event. All of these amazing fights are available this Saturday on ESPN+.
