Winnie Evalee Smoot, 89

Woodbury resident and White County native Winnie Evalee Smoot, 89, was born Oct. 31, 1921 and died July 9 at Woodbury Nursing Center in Woodbury following an extended illness.
A retired employee of McMinnville Garment Company and member of Trousdale Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Joe Edward and Rachel Evalee Medley Austin. She was married to Johnny G. Smoot, who preceded her in death April 20, 2008. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Ernest, Dillard, Orvil, Monroe and Brady Austin; two sisters, Melvina Youngblood and Carrie Frazier; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Faye Smoot.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Isaac “Jack” and Gail Smoot of McMinnville, and Jim and Jo Ann Smoot of Morrison; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in High’s Chapel with Gary Bell, Carl Russell and Mike Ray officiating. Burial followed at Trousdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trousdale Cemetery or the charity of your choice.
High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
