McMinnville resident and DeKalb County native Willie Mae “Billie” West Cates, 85, died April 21 at NHC Healthcare after an extended illness.A homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Hester Lee and Daisy Cantrell West; and was preceded in death by her husband, Grady W. Cates and brother, I.D. West.She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Joe Womack of McMinnville; sons and daughter-in-law, Joel and Lois Cates, and Tony Cates, all of McMinnville; grandchildren and spouses, Mary Lee and Eric Walker, Bryan Cates, Bill and Carrie St. John, all of McMinnville; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Curtis and Helen Martin and Virginia Beckwith, all of McMinnville; brothers, Luther West of McMinnville and Tom West of Huntsville; several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held at Mt. View Cemetery at 2 p.m. today with John Vaughan officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. today at High’s.
