Wayne Oliver Simerly, 79

McMinnville resident and Blount County native Wayne Oliver Simerly, 79, was born March 30, 1943 and died April 14 unexpectedly at his residence.            

A Tennessee Army National Guard veteran, retired machinist from DeZurik and of the Baptist faith, he was the son of the late Jerry Lloyd and Sylvia Brown Simerly. He was married on June 5, 1985 to Eleanor McCaleb, who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2019. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy, Lester and Donald Simerly.

Mr. Simerly is survived by children and spouses, Christine Moffitt and Christopher and Dana Simerly, both of McMinnville, Matthew and Wendy Simerly of Manchester, and Chasity Simerly of McMinnville, nine grandchildren and spouses, Kristan Moffitt and Chase Officer, Micah Moffitt and Samantha York, Mary Kate Simerly, Macey and Jeremiah Lance, Kylie Simerly and Chase Simerly, Bryson Simerly, Heather and Josh Thacker and Cyndi Grose Simerly, six great-grandchildren, Brady Officer, Colson Moffitt, Brantley and Camden York, Rosie Claire Lance and Owen Thacker, brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Sue Simerly of Quebec, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 18, at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville. Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at High’s. Full military honors will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
