Walter Allan Wood, 86, of McMinnville, died Thursday, July 7, at his residence. He was born June 19, 1925, in Mammoth Cave, Ky., was the former owner and operator of Maywood Shoe Store, a Baptist, and attended Locust Street Church of God.
Mr. Wood is preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Grace Gentry Wood, first wife, Charlotte Grimes Wood, brothers, Phillip and Randall Wood, sister, Dorothy Plott and grandson Robby Dunn.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Wood of McMinnville; children, Lisa and Ben Picou of Houma, La., Allana and Ben Waldrop of Mt. Juliet, Glenda Dunn of McMinnville, Gary and Kay Wood of Hixson; stepdaughter, Carla Totty of Nashville; grandchildren, Kyle Nelson, Kenny Bond, Justin Day, Cory Wood and Gary Wood II; great-grandchildren, Paige Wood and Emma Wood, step-grandchildren, Holden Gillis, MacKensie Gillis, Chancy Medley and step-great-grandchild, Kiptyn Medley.
A graveside service and interment is 11 a.m. Saturday at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Rev. Roland Sharp will officiate. The Wood family will receive friends Saturday from 8 until 10:45 a.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
